Who is This For?

page-rankAn interesting Facebook comment.

Last week I found out my page rank from Google is two. Ten is best, five means you have some legitimacy.  I have two. Zero means you are lame. I am only two above lame. Dang.

Why should this matter?

Or, as my friend addressed my complaint on Facebook, “Does it matter?”  I want to be spiritual and holy and say “No, of course not.” I would be lying. In lying, I would no longer be “spiritual and holy.”  It matters to me. A lot.

It matters because I have spent almost four years with this site. At first it was just a blog.  I would rattle off my thoughts about anything and everything. Then I decided to take it up a notch and started to provide resources for others.  After the great crash of 2008 deleted most of my posts, I started fresh.  This time I decided to chronicle my church planting adventures along with writing some of my theological beliefs in a way that could help others. I view this site as a ministry to others. I always hope it helps people who found themselves where I am.

I am not the perfect guy.

When people seek out the expert on church planting, theology, or fatherhood (three topics I write about, a lot), they know where to go. Want to plant a church? Thousands of sites with experts can break it all down into some kind of awesome formula or outline. You want theology, look at my blogroll. I have some powerhouses listed on there. You want fathering advice? You can get theories from everyone, their mom, and their doctor on how to be the best of the best.

You want someone who cannot do any of the three particularly well? Welcome to my site.

What is funny is, I always thought there were more of “me” out there. More guys who just wanted to talk about the struggles, celebrate the little things, and share with others what they go through. I like debates and disagreements among normal folks and I always hoped I could show people how NOT to do something. For example; I can tell you how to make sure your kids DO NOT eat their veggies.

But I wanted to do imperfection at its best.

I want to make this site with a human voice that was not all “know-it-all” sounding. I want to talk with pastors and laypeople who were just like me. Guys who want to plant churches and watch Football or play video games. I want to reach out to busy dads who also served their God and their churches. And I want to do it with excellence (and typos….lots of typos).

Surprise, I want people to come to this site.

I love checking my Google Analytics (sic) in the morning and seeing who dropped by. I love when my numbers are higher rather than lower. I love knowing I may have made someone think about things a little differently. I love sharing my story with others hoping it helps others in their sanctification. I really want this site to be a tool for others.

It is kind of like the old argument against worship leaders. People always get down on them if they get too showy or if they are too good of a musician. Instead of understanding the worship leader is trying to do his best for God, they think he or she is stealing the glory for themselves. Heaven forbid if a guitarist busts out an amazing solo during a worship set. Heaven forbid someone should show proficient mastery of their instrument.

This site is my instrument.

I want my craft to be considered legit and useful to as many people as possible. That is why my Page Rank of two comes as such a crushing blow. It is like saying my work for the past (almost) four years is meaningless. It can also me viewed as a sign of how much hard work I still have left to do.
