Dudes
It is more than just a word.
I have been thinking about what it takes to be a man lately. If you ask five different people what it means to be a man, you will get five different answers. Some answers will be strait up chauvinist. Some will be anatomical or physiological while some may have to do with keeping a job or supporting a family. One thing that is true no matter what, being a man is multifaceted. It takes a lot to earn the title and even more to keep it. I believe it is an honor myself. After all, we can agree it takes more than surviving until your 18th birthday to make you a man.
Any BOY can pretend to be a man.
We have millions (nay, billions) of examples of wannabes in the world. These are guys who look at women as conquests as opposed to bearers of God’s image. There are guys who do not care for or teach their children. Most of these boys do not romance their wives and start looking around at other women the way they should ONLY look at their wives. Some people think the age on the drivers license or the ability to pay rent for an apartment makes them a man. Some guys think it is the car they drive or the size of their anatomy. Other jackasses think it is the ability to bully women that makes them a man.
Wrong.
I will be the first to admit, there are probably moments where my membership into manhood should have been suspended. Just ask my wife. I am far from the perfect man. I only know a few things about being one. I have been blessed with a patient wife who has been by my side as I have matured and grown over the years. She watched me grow from a borderline “emergent church” kind of guy to one who loves Jesus, doctrine, and theology. I hope one day I can be as solid as the guys I look up to. I pray my wife continues to stick by me and learn with me. I pray I can be a great spiritual example to my kids.
Part of this went missing around the 1960’s
How many of you guys out there learned to open the door for a woman? How many of you would lend a woman your coat, hat, or gloves on a cold day? How many of us learned what it meant to treat a lady like a queen? When is the last time you dressed up to impress your lady; not just in hopes she would “give it up” to your sorry ass later?
This is why women want Vampires
There are very few good examples of men right now. It seems the gentlemen of the silver screen are nothing but a memory. Today’s examples of men are pathetic. From athletes being seen with multiple women every week in clubs to actors having kids with people they are not married to, our examples are atrocious.
In a society where many kids have to grow up without their daddy’s around, should we be surprised? These boys are having kids and leaving them instead of raising them. Some fathers are barely worth the title as they ignore their kids completely.
Are real men going to step up and be an example? Can we put down the video games and get off the internet and start being fathers and husbands?
Men, can we be honest for a minute? We have sucked at our jobs. We have failed to romance our wives properly. They are in the top two gifts God has given us (the first is salvation, the second is them, the third is our kids). We should be treating them better than our cars, computers, and video game systems. How many of us spend hundreds a year on these things but get upset about dropping $20 on sweetest day.
Come on guys, lets grow up and put the “boys” to shame.
